Kasey, of Doggy Diaries, is upset about a billboard in Los Angeles advertising a Spanish language news program. In the background title, "Los Angeles, CA", the "CA" is crossed out and "Mexico" written along side it. Kasey would be even more upset if she heard the talk I heard, years ago (the 1960s!), by Herman Kahn. Kahn was author of "On Thermonuclear Warfare," and a teacher of Henry Kissinger at Harvard. Kahn related attending a cocktail party in Mexico City where he met many Mexican intellectuals who had come to hear him speak earlier. He polled the persons he met at the party. He asked them, what would they do if the power relations of the US and Mexico were inverted -- if Mexico were as wealthy and powerful as the US and the US were was poor and weak as Mexico? To a person, they responded instantly: Mexico would reconquer the lost lands of the American Southwest and California. Think about that. Intellectuals, especially intellectuals who align with Marxism and hate the US, have very long memories.
