The theory that animal proteins, including beef protein, cause or accelerate cancer is a popular justification for vegetarianism. It's popularity is based on the research of T. Colin Campbell, especially his statistical analysis of survey data on Chinese diets and cancer and other diseases. His work is published as The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted And the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss, And Long-term Health (T. Colin Campbell, et. al., [1991] 2004, reprint 2006).(See also, the documentary movie, "Forks Over Knives" [2011], which extensively interviews Dr. Campbell.) Popularity of the research should not imply scientific reliability. To the contrary, Campbell's statistical analysis and inferences are seriously flawed; his conclusions should not be accepted. The theory is speculation, not fact.
