What To Do In Case of Nuclear Attack

A private, but well-informed citizen, has written a pamphlet on what to do in case of a nuclear attack. Notice several matters about the recommendations. One, without prior government planning and preparation of civilians, as through civil defense, mass evacuation is probably not going to be successful. Each household must prepare, he advises, to ride out the effects of the blast and fallout (assuming they are far enough away from the blast center, of course) in their home. Two, government will not be able to help households for a long time after a blast.

Arms Escalation in the Middle East; A Deadly Game of 'Chicken'

Russia is selling hundreds of advanced fighter-bombers to Iran. Iran has linked its military to Syria. Syria is also getting advanced Russian arms. The US is selling advanced fighters to Saudi Arabia and Israel. Israel is in a race to upgrade the IDF in all areas. Meanwhile, in the background, Iran is racing to build its nuclear bomb. It is difficult to see how this arms race can end anywhere except in war, and, because of the deadline imposed by Iran's bomb, soon.

Containment and balance-of-power won't work with Iran and the Shi'a axis, who are determined to expand their power in the region and radical Islam around the world. Israel is being pushed into a corner, surrounded by enemies sworn to its destruction. Modernization of their enemies' militaries is degrading Israeli deterrance. The same enemies, plus Al Qaeda, with Russia applauding, want to push the US out of the Middle East altogether. The leaders in place in Israel--and unfortunately probably coming into the presidency with the Democratic Party in the US--are incompetent. They are blinded by wishful-thinking and carry an aggressive denial of reality like chips on their shoulders. Their incompetence will make the war more difficult, protracted, and the losses incurred greater. The war that is coming is not one Israel or we can afford to lose. It is an existential issue for Israel. A loss would greatly magnify the power of Islamist terrorists. A few major strikes in American cities would certainly make the results of a defeat seem like an existential issue for us, too.

Smoking Pot Will Make You Crazy

A study published in the British medical journal, Lancet, establishes that regular consumption of marijuana (daily or weekly) increases the risk of suffering from mental disorders, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and hallucinations, by 50% to 200%. This study is welcome news. It reinforces the common sense intuition that regular intoxication from drugs is self-destructive behavior. It should splash cold water on the enthusiasm of potheads, libertarians, and social anarchists who want the legalization and free use of marijuana. Of course, if they're stoned, no amount of rationality or reality is going to convince them of the errors of their ways. One more foolish, self-indulgent myth of the 1960s has been discredited.

Update. July 31, 2007. And if you don't go bonkers, inhaling pot will get you five-times faster than tobacco.

Model Preamble for Confession and Apology for the Left

A radical American environmentalist has recanted and apologized for his vicious revolutionary destructive acts. His confession and apology would be a model preface for similar confessions and apologies by Leftists everywhere, should they awaken from their political werewolfism.

Stanislas Meyerhoff said:

" 'I was ignorant of history and economy and acted from a faulty and narrow vision as an ordinary bigot ... A million times  over I apologize ... to all of you hardworking business owners, employees, researchers, firemen, investigators, attorneys and all citizens who property was destroyed, whose holidays were ruined, whose welfare was thwarted, and whose sleep was troubled.' "

There must be more said in confession and apology by the revolutionary left; but this is a beginning.

" 'She looks hot on it,' confirmed Marc Weinstock, executive vice president of Screen Gems, 'Extinction's' distributor.' "

I've got news for Marc Weinstock, Milla Jovovich would look hot riding anything. A tricycle. A burro. An F35. A pastry cart.

Northrop Buys Scaled Composites; Good Sign for SoCal Aerospace?

According to the LA Times, Northrop Grumman Corp (Century City based), which had owned 40% of Burt Rutan's Scaled Composites, has purchased the remainder of the company ("Defense: Northrop buys spaceship maker", Los Angeles Times, C8). The LA Times's notice only indicates Northrop's interest in unmanned vehicles. What does this mean for suborbital space travel? Does Northrop think the technology is sufficiently proved that it could proceed to development of commercial (or military?) prototypes? Will it do this work in Southern California?

Despair for Israel Because of Olmert Government

The Olmert government is so wretchedly detrimental to Israel's national interest that it is possible to fall into despair for the Jewish state. It is obvious, from evidence around the world from nearly every country, that the only protection for Jews that Jews can depend upon is their own national state and its military. Why would anyone who cares for Jews seek to undermine the Jewish national state? Yet they do, and "they" includes, alas, other Jews, Jews who are mostly on the Left. Once again, we are reminded of the pernicious effect of the internationalist Marxist ideology.
