Re-analysis of raw surface temperature data in the US from 1973 to 2006 shows there likely was no warming over that period. One the major problems with surface temperatures is to differentiate between the urban heating effect and general atmospheric temperature. Cities generate their own heat, which raises recorded temperatures in and near them. To determine regional atmospheric temperatures, the urban heat effect must be subtracted from recorded temperatures. How to do this correction is the source of much of the statistical hocus pocus that has, apparently, led the main advocates of global warming astray. A re-analysis of the US temperatures uses a new procedure to measure the urban heat effect by categorizing cities into 4 classes by population density. Urban heat effect increases with population density (as population density represents urban concentration). The result of the analysis shows that it is likely there was no general atmospheric warming of the US over the years 1973 to 2006 (the years of the reliable raw data). The report and the charts of the analysis are quite readable. Read them for yourself.
