Gwendolyn Bounds, "Green Acres Is the Place to Be" (The Wall Street Journal, Thursday, December 3, 209, B11), discusses the increasing number of city dwellers and suburbanites (called "ruralpolitans" [by realtors, I guess]) who are moving to rural locales for life and work. Most anticipate living on the land and have purchased small acreages of farmland or rural property. Some are motivated by fear of the insecurities of the national economy, wanting to invest in property that will enable them to ride out economic turnturns. But others are looking for a more meaningful lifestyle, engagement with raising their food, simpler arrangements, than provided by city living.
