We purchased six registered bred Brangus heifers and one registered Brangus bull prospect. In a previous post, I noted that five of heifers had their calves (one of which was killed by coyotes a week after birth). We had our last calf birthed in early June. We are registering our first bull calf, born in December 2012, and selling it to a neighbor farmer who has helped us establish our herd. Of the remaining calves, only one is a heifer, and she will join our herd and be bred. The other little bulls will be banded and become steers, intended for market in a year or so. We are proud of our cows. They delivered their calves naturally in the field without assistance with no mishaps. They are beautiful animals, good mothers, curious, and thriving. We will breed them again in September.
